POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

PRESIDENT - COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF VERMONT

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Vermont State Colleges, we are pleased to invite applications and nominations for the position of President of Community College of Vermont (CCV). CCV is one of five colleges comprising the Vermont State Colleges System and the only community college in the state.

Founded in 1970, CCV is an innovative, flexible, open admissions, two-year college offering associate degrees, transfer, occupational, and continuing education opportunities for a diverse population. The non-traditional nature of the college is ideal for new ideas and experimentation in the design and delivery of educational programs.

The College serves approximately 11,000 students annually and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. With twelve locations across the state, Vermont itself is CCV’s campus, with courses and programs available within 25 miles of 95% of the state’s population and with 20% of enrollment online. CCV’s faculty is community-based and 100% part-time. CCV's central administrative offices are located in Montpelier, Vermont.

The president is appointed by the Vermont State Colleges Board of Trustees and reports to the Chancellor of the system. The president is responsible for management of the college within the policies of the Board of Trustees.

The Board is committed to conducting an equitable and fair national search that will attract a strong pool of presidential candidates. The Board is also committed to undertaking a process that will allow us to keep the college community informed and involved by distributing regular progress reports, posting information in the System’s portal, and making formal reports during the regular meetings of the Board.

Challenges and Opportunities

The President will possess the necessary qualifications and experience to:

• Lead the College in responding to changing community and statewide needs through proactive expansion of enrollment in an increasingly competitive environment.

• Help guide the College through the challenges of meeting with equity and consistency a broad range of needs that vary from community to community via sites that serve as few as 250 students and as many as 2500.
• Promote with enthusiasm the goals of persistence and academic success across student populations, with a focus on improving the success rates for those who come to us academically underprepared and at higher risk for stopping out.
• Lead the College through implementation of its just-completed 10-year strategic plan and lay the groundwork for CCV’s upcoming accreditation visit in 2012.
• Promote the use of technology for teaching and learning, distance education and communication.
• Provide leadership in positive employee relations, academic affairs, professional development and teamwork.
• Work with trustees and staff of all the Vermont State Colleges as part of a system, emphasizing both the distinctive contributions of the college and the collective value of the system.

Qualifications

Successful candidates must demonstrate superb leadership and communication skills, experience in fostering and supporting a diverse college community, commitment to and ability to promote CCV’s mission of access, affordability, and student success, and possess the ability to embrace and manage change in a productive and innovative setting.
