Andy Glover: A Young Man with a Plan

At the age of 16 Andy Glover will soon complete his fourth college course, Macroeconomics. If everything goes according to plan, he'll graduate from CCV in two years, at the same time many of his friends will be getting their high-school diploma. From there he plans to earn a bachelor's degree in business. “My long-term goal is to be the manager or owner of a successful business.”

Home-schooled his entire life, Andy says “I am an independent, self-directed learner, setting goals and making a plan on how to reach them.” He appreciates the professional experience and knowledge that his teachers have been able to provide. When asked what he believes is the most beneficial part of CCV he says, “The relaxed, and laid-back environment. When people are comfortable, they can concentrate more on what they are learning and less on how they look, act, or speak. The students at CCV are here to learn, as you can tell the second you step into the classroom.”

His first class at CCV was Introduction to College Studies, a free, non-credit class that "gave me an idea of what to expect in college, how to take notes and organize work." After taking the course, Andy received a voucher, available to all students who complete ICS, to take a free CCV course for credit, an immediate jump-start to his college journey.

Andy isn't at all daunted by the fact that he is the youngest student in all his classes, by far. "People here—both the students and the teachers--don't write me off as a stereotypical teenager. They have respect. They understand that I am here to learn and they listen to what I have to say…I really like that my classmates, whatever their age, have a life outside of college… that college isn't their whole life. One thing that I will truly appreciate, more than the degree that I will earn, are the lifelong friendships that I've formed while here at CCV."
