Your Life, Your College, Your Way.

Michelle Campbell

Just a year ago, when Michelle Campbell graduated from high school, she wasn't at all sure about going to college…or what she would study if she did go. She says, "I knew I needed a college education to go anywhere in life and definitely if I wanted to have a good job, but I didn't quite know where to start."

Michelle is the first person in her large, extended family to go to college, so she decided to test the waters at a community college. "I wanted to find out what college is like and whether I could do it. I also needed to have a balance in my life between school and work so CCV made sense. It's convenient and I could afford the tuition, even without financial aid."

Michelle has earned A's in most of her CCV classes so far and feels good about how she is managing her homework, her class schedule, and her recent promotion at work. Michelle says, "I've been the youngest person in almost all my classes, but people have been so welcoming. As a result I find that I'm becoming less shy and more comfortable around people. The teachers are very clear about their expectations and willing to help when I need it."

Michelle's ideas about her future are becoming clearer too. She wants to pursue a career in a helping profession so she plans to complete her associate degree at CCV and then continue on for a bachelor's degree. Just one year out of high school, Michelle's already thinking about returning there as a school counselor. As she explains, "I'd like to help people learn about college, that it's worth the time and the money and can make a big difference in your future."
