Evaluation and Grades

As a CCV student, you can choose either letter grades (A, B, C, D, or F with plus or minus), or a pass/fail system (Pass or No Pass). All pre-college (developmental skills) courses are evaluated on a P/NP basis.

Regardless of the grading option you choose, you also receive a narrative evaluation from the instructor which includes information about course objectives, your performance, and recommendations for further work.

A "C-" or above indicates satisfactory work. A "D" or "P" (equivalent to D- or better) indicates marginal performance and cannot be counted as credit toward degree program requirements. "F" or "NP" grades indicate a failure to meet course objectives and expectations.

All grades (A through F, P, NP, and W) appear on official transcripts. Grades of "P" or "NP" will not be factored into a student's GPA; all other grades factor into a student's GPA.

Honors

CCV now awards two different kinds of honors - Term Honors and Graduate Honors.

Term Honors are granted to full time (12 or more credits) students after every semester. Students with a 4.0 GPA. are eligible for President's List honors, and students with GPAs between 3.5 and 3.995 are eligible for the Dean's List.

Graduate honors are granted to students who are graduating in any given year. These honors are awarded based on a student's cumulative GPA. The breakdown for these awards is:

Cum Laude: 3.50, Magna Cum Laude: 3.70, Summa Cum Laude: 3.90.
