Why Take Assessments?

The purpose of our skills assessments is to place you in the classes most appropriate to your academic abilities. You will not be denied admission to CCV based on your assessment scores; however, you may need to enroll in developmental skills courses before taking college-level classes.

CCV uses the College Board's Accuplacer assessments. Most new CCV students need to take the sentence skills, reading comprehension, arithmetic and elementary algebra assessments. Your scores will help you and your advisor choose the most appropriate classes.

Can I Practice for Assessments?

Yes! Taking time to learn about the types of questions asked and brushing up on your math skills can help you save time and money. Click here for more information on ways to prepare.

Who Should Take Assessments?

While most new students are required to complete assessments, they may be waived in the following situations:

• Transfer students- All official college transcripts received by CCV are reviewed for a potential waiver of assessments upon receipt. Click here for information on submitting your official transcripts (required for all transfer applicants).
• Continuing Education applicants- An advisor may waive the assessments if you present an official or unofficial college transcript that demonstrates the background necessary for your chosen course(s).
• Continuing Education applicants with a college degree- The assessments will automatically be waived in the application process.
• Applicants with SAT/ACT scores- CCV does not require SAT or ACT scores, but in some cases these scores can be accepted instead of the Accuplacer assessments. Click here for more information.
• Intro to College Studies students- High school students who plan to take only ICS will not need to take assessments before signing up for the course. Instead, you will take the assessments during the course.

Schedule Your Assessments

These online assessments are offered to students free of charge at all CCV academic centers. Call or visit your local CCV academic center to schedule your assessments. Allow at least 30 minutes to complete each section; you can take them all at once, two at a time, or one at a time when it is convenient for you.

What Do My Scores Mean?

You will receive your scores as soon as you are finished. These are used to help you and your advisor choose the most appropriate classes. Click here for information on which courses are recommended based on your assessment scores.
