What Do My Scores Mean?

After completing your Accuplacer assessments, meet with an advisor to discuss which courses you should start with. Please note: the scores are not on a 100% scale!

English Assessment Scores:

Add your Reading Comprehension score and your Sentence Skills score together to find your placement level.

Combined Reading & Sentence Skills:
169 or below

Meet with an advisor to talk about which of CCV's developmental options is right for you. Developmental courses prepare students to be successful for their college-level courses. They do not apply toward a degree, but often lead to greater success in the courses that do!

Combined Reading & Sentence Skills:
170 or more

Take one of CCV's first-semester seminars: Dimensions of Work (INT-1050) or Dimensions of Freedom (INT-1060). The first-semester seminar is required of all degree students unless they can demonstrate 15 credits or more of successful college learning through a transcript. In a Dimensions course, you will reinforce your reading, writing, critical thinking and class participation skills while learning about topics across a wide number of subject areas. You may also take other college-level courses, although you may want to wait until after you complete Dimensions to enroll in English Composition, an intensive writing course.

Math Assessment Scores:

Every degree student must demonstrate basic arithmetic and algebra skills before enrolling in college-level math and other courses (such as science). To earn an associate degree, you will need to complete a college-level math class. Use the following scoring rubric to identify your recommended first math course.

Arithmetic: 65 or below

Basic Math (MAT-0210)*

Arithmetic: 66 or more
&
Algebra: 41 or below

Basic Algebra (MAT-0221)*

Arithmetic: 66 or more
&
Algebra: 42 - 57

Intermediate Algebra (MAT-1020)** or
Mathematical Concepts (MAT-1030)

Arithmetic: 66 or more
&
Algebra: 58 or more

Finite Math (MAT-1221),
Quantitative Reasoning (MAT-1225),
College Algebra (MAT-1230), or
Statistics (MAT-2021)

* These basic skills courses are meant to prepare students for college-level work. Credit earned at this level will NOT apply to the degree.

**Intermediate Algebra is for those planning to take science and upper level math courses.
