Continuing Education at CCV

Who is a Continuing Education Student?

A Continuing Education student is one who wants to take courses but does not declare an intent to earn an associate degree or certificate at CCV. You can begin as a Continuing Education student and later choose to become a degree seeking student.

Continuing Education students include people who plan to gain additional professional development or training, take courses for personal enrichment, or enroll under CCV's free tuition program for Vermont senior citizens. Students from other colleges taking CCV courses for transfer credit are also considered Continuing Education students.

Federal financial aid programs are not available to non-degree students, so those wanting to use financial aid while earning transfer credit should apply as degree students. VSAC does offer some non-degree grants to Continuing Education students.

If you already have a college degree, assessment and transcript requirements in step 2 below will automatically be waived (except for certain math or science courses with specific prerequisites) and you will be given prompt access to registration.

Steps to Getting Started as a Continuing Education Student

  1. Apply online or at your local CCV office.
  2. Complete skills assessments in reading and sentence skills at your local CCV office. (Math or other assessments may also be needed depending on the course you want to take.)
    OR
Present an unofficial transcript of previous college-level work to a CCV academic advisor, who may waive the assessments requirement. In some cases SAT/ACT scores can be accepted in lieu of assessments. Contact a local advisor to have scores reviewed.
  3. Register for classes online or at your local CCV office.
  4. Pay tuition and fees for your course or make payment arrangements.
  5. Purchase your textbooks and materials.
