Skills AssessmentsWhy take assessments?CCV has an open admissions policy: anyone who can contribute to and gain from post-secondary education may register for courses. The purpose of our skill assessments is to place you in the classes most appropriate to your academic ability. You will not be denied admission to CCV based on your assessment scores; however, you may need to enroll in developmental skills courses before taking other college-level classes. CCV uses the College Board's Accuplacer assessments. You will take sentence skills, reading comprehension, arithmetic and sometimes elementary algebra assessments, and the resulting scores help you and your advisor choose classes at the most appropriate level. Non-degree students may have the assessments waived by an advisor if unofficial transcripts of previous college courses demonstrate background necessary for their chosen CCV courses. How does it work? These assessments are administered individually to students free of charge, online at your own pace, at all CCV site locations.
