What equipment will you need for online classes?

  • A recent model X86 class computer
(Intel Celeron, Pentium II or newer, AMD Duron, Athlon or newer)
  • Windows Operating System (OS) Me, 2000, XP, or Vista
or Linux OS, any recent version distribution should be fine
    or A Mac running OSX
  • A modem that connects at 33.6 kbs or faster
  • DSL or cable modem is highly recommended for faster access
  • An Internet service provider (ISP.) Internet service providers vary in both price and quality of service. Please consult with the Online Learning staff for recommendations.
  • A reliable e-mail account. e-mail messages do not reach Hotmail and AOL users dependably; therefore we strongly discourage the use of Hotmail and AOL for participation in an online course.
  • A recent version web browser, such as Internet Explorer v6 or higher or Firefox v2 or higher. Other browsers may work but all browsers must be Java enabled.

What about Software?

Most courses will only require you to have an up-to-date browser. However a word processor will be very handy, if not invaluable.

For some online accounting, business, computer and graphic design courses you will need to have specific software View List.
