CCV - Vermont Tech LPN Nursing Pathway

Program Requirements

To be successful in the LPN program, it is important that you have certain skills in writing, reading, and algebra. You may have your skills in these areas assessed at any CCV location. Recent coursework in lab sciences, especially biology and chemistry, at a high school level or higher is also recommended.

If you do not have the required skills, you can take basic skills courses at your local technical center or CCV location.

Required CCV Courses

The four required CCV courses are:

Introduction to Nutrition .................................3 cr
Human Growth & Development ...................3 cr
Human Anatomy & Physiology I ..................4 cr
Human Anatomy & Physiology II .................4 cr

If you have the prerequisite skills, you may enroll at any CCV location for classes beginning September, January, or May.

You may also enroll in CCV's Allied Health Prep certificate program before transfering to Vermont Tech. After successful completion of the CCV courses, you will be prepared to apply to Vermont Tech for the second half of the LPN program. An advisor in your nearest CCV office can give you more information about the program.

Vermont Tech Courses

The Vermont Tech portion of the program consists of three semesters of course work. The courses are broadcast on Vermont Interactive Television (VIT) so that you may attend them in your local community.

These courses are:

Semester I

Principles & Practices of Nursing I .............5 cr
Principles & Practices of Nursing I Lab .....4 cr
Nurse-Client Relationship ...........................3 cr

Semester II

Pharmacology.................................................3 cr
Principles & Practices of Nursing II ............5 cr

Principles & Practices of Nursing II Lab.....4 cr

Semester III

Principles & Practices of Nursing III...........5 cr
Principles & Practices of Nursing III...........4 cr

You will also be able to complete the clinical hours required for the certificate at facilities in your region.

An online learning center is also available to provide additional support, including follow-up to lectures and interactive “chat” sessions with other students and faculty. You may access the center via a networked computer at home, in your office, or in a CCV computer lab.

Since enrollment in the Vermont Tech portion of the program is limited, admission is competitive. Applicants will be evaluated by qualification, based on their performance in the required CCV courses and letters of recommendation from employers and faculty. No placement exam is required for students whose skills have been assessed at CCV. Financial aid is available through Vermont Tech for students who qualify.
