Transferring Credits

Q. How do I get my transcript sent from CCV to my selected schools?

Send a Transcript Request Form (also available in your site office) to the CCV Registrar in Waterbury (PO Box 120, 05676). There is no cost for CCV transcripts. Be sure to include the exact address of the school to which you wish the transcript sent. Most schools will want an official transcript from every college you attended, so if you have been to other colleges in addition to CCV, you will have to contact them as well.

Q. How long will it take my transcript to arrive at my selected school?

CCV can usually send out a transcript within a week of your request; other schools may take longer. If you want your transcript to include current semester grades, check the appropriate box on the form.

Q. What can I do to maximize the number of credits I can transfer?

Know the requirements of the school and be prepared to discuss what you learned in your courses. Make sure you keep a file of your CCV course descriptions and instructor evaluations, as well as any syllabi.

Q. How will I know what courses my new school will accept?

You typically will not receive formal notification of transfer credits until you matriculate. Some schools offer a pre-admission evaluation of your college work. Call the admissions office to find out how to proceed.

Q. Some of my credits didn’t transfer. What should I do?

Find out what happened. Many schools will not give credit for courses they do not offer or for courses that are not college-level (like developmental skills courses). If you have changed majors, you may have completed coursework that doesn’t apply to your new program. Often, the final decision rests with the department chairperson. Meet with him or her and be prepared to discuss the work you have completed. Bring any documentation you have (e.g. syllabus, papers submitted, and the course evaluation).
