Study Abroad, France 2006

In this Art Appreciation (ART-1050) course students explored the nature of art--its creation, visual elements, meanings, and styles. At the end of the semester, in May they had a chance to view some of the great masterpieces of Western painting, sculpture and architecture during a study tour to France.


Trip Highlights

May 12 - 21, 2006

  • Guided visits to major museums in Paris
  • Time to visit historical monuments such as Notre Dame and the Arc de Triomphe
  • Day trips to Chartres Cathedral, Versailles and Monet's home in Giverny
  • Evening musical and dramatic performances

The course included:

  • four pre-trip class meetings in Montpelier
  • 10-day study tour in France, including group flight to and from Burlington, VT, breakfasts, lodging, transportation, and entry fees
  • one post-trip class meeting in Montpelier

Instructor

Ann Newsmith studied art history on a study abroad program in Paris as an undergraduate, then returned to live and work in France while completing research for her dissertation on medieval sculpture. Fluent in French, she has traveled widely throughout Europe and central America, where she has led groups for a variety of different organizations. Ann has taught at CCV for many years and currently works as the college's marketing director.
