Introduction to Ornithology
This course provided the opportunity to see tropical birds native to Belize, as well as birds seen in the northeast who have completed their winter migration to Central America. Time was spent in both the jungle and on the reef.

The tour included:

  • Group flight out of Boston
  • Birdwatching at Crooked Tree Reserve
  • A day trip to the Maya Mountains – featuring some of the best birding spots in Belize
  • An extended stay at Possum Point Biological Research Station on the Sittee River, five miles upstream from the Caribbean Sea
  • Time at Wee Wee Caye Marine Lab
  • Visit to a local elementary school and a chance to meet the children
  • Pre- and post-course meetings in Montpelier

Instructor Bob Jervis has traveled extensively and led tour groups on the northeast coast, the southwest desert area, and Belize. In addition to a degree in Botany from Dartmouth College, Bob holds a Master's and PhD degree in Ecology from Rutgers University. He teaches for both CCV and the JSC External Degree Program.
