Study Abroad in England

May 11 – 20, 2007 - Archaeology: Tracing the Human Past

This course examined how a society can be understood by looking at its material remains. It covered the historical development of archaeology, considered archaeological sites as endangered cultural resources, and sampled cultural evidence from around the world. During a trip to England, students were able to research and observe field sites on location. The wide variety of sites spans from the Paleolithic (Old Stone Age) through Medieval periods.

Highlights included:

  • Visit to Stonehenge
  • Excursions to Dartmoor National Park encompassing three different sites, including the Merrivale Standing Stones
  • Guided visit to Kenilworth Castle
  • Excursion to Roman ruins, including Hadrian’s Wall

Instructor Rebecca Werner has taught for CCV for many years and currently is associate academic dean. She has traveled extensively, including several trips to archaeological sites in England.
